Choices

By Keith Spell, CX7590

Before I was incarcerated, I made a choice to commit a crime. Not knowing the outcome, I did not think it through.

It cost me 25 years of my life. Looking back, I made another choice not to blame others for my mistakes. I face the truth head on, accepting responsibility for my choices. I know I can change my behaviors and I’m determined not to repeat the mistakes of my past.
Now I can talk freely about my crime, and can honestly say that I’ve learned from my mistakes. Even though I’m still paying for the same mistakes I made all those years ago, I’m a better person.

I now have no desire to rob, cheat, or steal. I look at myself as being an example for people who say they can’t change, because it took me 25 years, but I have changed.

“May your choices reflect your hopes, and not your fears.”
