Down but I am Not Out
By Michael McDermott, NF7917

My name is Mike. I have AIDS. Sometimes I cut myself because I am afraid of dying. There are two people I trust telling how I feel. Both are Certified Peer Specialists (CPS), and both help me to work through my problems.
I love those guys dearly. Without those guys, I’d be lost. I am working to better myself. I am back in school, after being away almost 45 years, and I am participating in the Impact of Crime Program, learning to better in life.
I am working on myself. I still have bumps in the road.
I might be down, but I am not out!
“I can be changed by what happens to me.
But I refuse to let it reduce me.”
