Relapse Looks Like This

By Guy Batchelor, NE5419

Dirty clothes;

Poor hygiene;

No friends, just other addicts, to commit crimes with

Family turning their back on me;

Isolation;

Homelessness;

Low self-esteem;

Unhealthy weight;

Rashes;

Blisters;

Track marks;

No one relies on, or trust me;

Not being there for my kids;

Letting everyone down;

Hospital trips;

Overdoses;

A lot of pain, physical and emotional;

Police car rides;

Living in abandoned houses;

Walking the streets at late hours;

Not taking my medication;

Running up debts;

People haunting me down;

Ducking every time I see a cop;

Not being able to face family or friends due to shame;

Violating parole;

Rehabs;

Lack of sleep;

Not caring about anything, selfishness, lack of respect for myself and others;

Loss of my freedom, maybe death.

That's what relapse looks like to me....
